Eleven disqualified MLAs from Haryana found drawing pension and allowances from the state government for the last 11 years, says an RTI report.

Information got under RTI Act showed the disqualified MLAs of Haryana have got pensions, dearness and travel allowances for 11 years.

RTI activist PP Kapoor said, in 2010, then Haryana Speaker Chaudhary Satbir Singh Kadiyan had disqualified 11 MLAs under the anti-defection law. Out of them, six were disqualified by the Supreme Court, however, they continued to receive pensions and allowances.

Kapoor said Congress had enacted a law in 2010 which regularised all MLAs who were disqualified for defection and other reasons.

The disqualified were getting Rs 51,800 as pension and Rs 10,000 as travelling allowance every month, said the RTI activist.

BJP in Haryana opined the disqualified should deposit money to the government’s account or action woukd be taken against them.

“People elect MLAs, some of them change parties due to selfish reasons and are disqualified by the court. I don’t think such MLAs should take pension. They should voluntarily deposit money with govt or action be taken. Govt should think about it,” said Manish Grover, Haryana BJP vice president.
