Following the possible severe deterioration in the quality of air in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to the city residents not to use their personal vehicles at least once a week and use public transport, to reduce vehicular emissions and also urged people to turn-off the vehicle engines at red lights.
The chief minister asserted that pollution from local sources was within safe limits, but the burning of crop residue in neighbouring states is responsible for increasing it. He accused governments of other states of not helping farmers in managing crop residue.
As pollution threat looms over the city once again, Kejriwal said it is high-time that Delhi residents take the responsibility to handle the situation. He made three appeals to Delhiites to control air pollution.
1. Do not take the personal vehicles out at least one day in a week and use public and travel on the metro, bus, or share vehicles with others
2. Turn-off the vehicles at red lights. And
3. Download the Green Delhi app to file a complaint against any vehicle or industry that is causing pollution in the city.
This comes a week after the chief minister, to control air pollution in Delhi, announced a 10-point ‘winter action plan; that focuses on dust control, using the Pusa bio-decomposer, installing smog towers and checking waste burning and vehicular emissions.
