About 70 students and 7 staff members under the guidance of high school principal Fr Ramesh Fernandes and staff carried out the cleanliness drive wherein empty liquor and beer bottles and paper plates etc that were strewn all over making the area filthy were collected and dumped in the dustbin.

“ I had been to the dam with some senior citizens last week when I saw the bottles and other materials strewn all over. Along with my team we decided to clean the same and observed the ‘ Save Earth Day’ in a unique way,” Fr Fernandes said. He also appealed the those engaged in dirtying the area and the authorities to maintain cleanliness.

Posters displaying measures to save the earth were also during the rally in Rakaskoppa village. Gangadhar and activist from Vishranti Ashram, Belgundi also joined the students and caught a russels viper snake and educated the students on how snakes too are the part of ecology and how to save them.

The act of students which was appreciated by the villagers in the vicinity has also come as an eye opener for those engaged in the dirty act of boozing and party making near Rakaskoppa dam. None of the dam authorities nor the staff were present during the drive.
