Boat Capsizes in Maharashtra, 11 Feared Drown

In a major tregedy at least 11 people are feared drowned after the boat they were sailing in capsized in the Wardha river in Amaravati district in Maharashtra at around 10.30am on Tuesday. The bodies of three people were pulled out while the search for eight is on.

The in which 11 people of three families were sailing to the opposite bank of the river near Shrikshetra Jhunjh. On hearing the screams for help villagers jumped into the river to save the people but could not due to high flow of current.

It was said that those sailing in the illfated boat were the tourists, the boat capsized due to imbalance.

The Wardha river has been swollen for the past one week due to rains in its catchment areas. Though the exact cause of the mishap is not clear, villagers said it might have sunk as it was packed over against its capacity and the victims may have been dragged away by the strong currents.
