Power of pro-Maharashtrians in Belagavi depended entirely on holding power on Belagavi City Corporation. Once had 3-4 legislators to Karnataka State Assembly it now even lost power on the city corporation, it has reached to such a condition that it is in “Do or Die” situation.
The changed political equation showed that BJP is now in ‘Front Engine Place’, however, would go back to ‘Push Engine’ if Marathis, mainly the pro-Maharashtrians stick to their “One- point Agenda” demand of merger of Marathi speaking places in Karnataka into Maharashtra.
Now, after political parties decided to contest on the party symbols, MES worry worsen as its earlier policy that “All Elected Marathis are MES” would not possible this time. Earlier, even those Marathis elected defeating MES candidates used to plead for it now its not possible.
Than, no neither BJP nor MES eligible to reach the “Magic Number 30” and can ‘Go Hand-hand’ to establish power on the corporation. Independents would get ‘good rate’ if there was a hang position.
Congress is expected to win about 15 with seats would stick to “Wait and Watch” policy,.
MES, if fight alike in by-polls to Belagavi Lokasabha, BJP will suffer a setback. Marathis who votedto BJP in last general elto Loksabha that it wanted the party to lead the government for the second term voted to pro-Maharashtrians organisation Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) candidate in by-polls to Loksabha election as there would be no harm to the central government led by BJP if had lost the election. However, BJP which depended mainly on Marathis would suffer a setback if they back the pro-Maharashtrians to show their solidarity that having power of the local body could make their plead strong in Supreme Court demanding the merger Marathi speaking places in Karnataka into Maharashtra.
“We most of the pro-Maharashtrians in Belagavi stood with BJP when things comes to the Hinduism and Nationality, however, at the same time it is equellent us to protect our local political interest for which we back MES if no harm, threat to BJP in union,” said the pro-Maharashtrians who don’t wanted to be named.
If so, BJP claiming could win more than 45
seats of 58 seats could be restricted between 15 to 20 and MES and Marathis to 8 to 10.
