As the Karnataka High Court has instructed the government to provide the list of the temples, worship places constructed illegally and on public places, the Belagavi district administration has identified 29 such places in Belagavi town and has served notices to the heads and committees to clear those, else it would demolish.

With the notice, Ashwathama temple at Pangul galli in Belagavi city market believed constructed about 150 years has also faced a threat. There was a huge protest when the administration tried to demolish the temple, after its committee refused to remove it, in 2009.
