After 4 days of the brutal killing of a Dalit woman after being allegedly gang raped in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh the U.P. government on Friday has suspended the District Police Chief and 4 other cops on charges of laxity and has ordered narcotic test along with the family members of the victim.

The officers suspended include the SP Vikrant Vir, DYSP Ram Shabad, Station House In Charge Dinesh Kumar Verma and two other cops.

According to the sources the U.P. CM has instructed a thorough probe of the suspended officers to the SIT (Special Investigating Team). The role of the local police came under the scanner after the family members of the victim alleged that the cops did not take any action against the culprits, when she was allegedly gang raped and brutalised by four youths, who hailed from the same village.

An UP Congress leader has termed the suspensions as a “damage control exercise”. “The action is too little and too late…..the guilty cops must be put behind the bars and prosecuted for murder.”
