Shivaji, Rayanna Statue Disruption, Tension in Belagavi, IPC Section 144 in Force

Tension gripped in Belagavi following the rumours spread about disrupting the statue of Shivaji at Bengaluru, on Friday night. Hundreds of activists of Hindu factions gatheted at Bogarves circle and urged the government to arrest the accused disrupted the statue.

As a reaction, Sangolli Rayanna statue at Kanakadas circle in Anagol in Belagavi was damaged. The hand held the sword and the defense shield in the left hand were broken. Police have taken the damaged statue to Tilakwadi station.

About 20 vehicle including police jeeps were damaged in stone pelting in the night.

Kannada organisations protested on Rani Channamma circle demanding action against those damaged the Rayanna state. To prevent spreading the violence, prohibitory order under section 144 clamped in the city.

Shivaji statue at Bengaluru was said to be disrupted following burning of Kannada flag at Kolhapur in Maharashtra recently.
