Alleging religious conversation, the Sriram Sena activists stormed into a hall at Maratha Colony in Tilakwadi where routine the Prayer Service was going on and locked the main door on Sunday afternoon.
The lock was opened when then the police reached. About a hundred people including women and children were attending the prayer service. Priest Lema Cherian said the prayer service was conducting every Sunday with the prior permission of the police and he and people attended the service told police that the Church never engaged in converting the non-Christians to Christianity. People also clarified that that they came to worship on their own and not by neither by force nor any offer.
The Hindu outfit alleged that a group of Pastors from outside the state were engaged in converting the Hindus to Christianity by offering them cash, ration, sewing machines etc. However, the Christians rubbished the allegations saying they have converted by heart and mind and not any external offers.
Pastor Cherian clarified that he was only leading a prayer meeting of Christians like every week and not attempting conversions. We have intimated the local police about this meeting. We have not forced anyone to come here. We are not doing anything illegal. We are only practicing the rituals of our religion, which is our fundamental right,’’ he said.
