The Indian Navy on Thursday received its 5th Scorpene Class Submarine ‘Vagir’ with the Defence Minister Shripad Naik launching it through the video conference. The event was organized at the Mazagon Dock, Mumbai. Vagir is the 5th of the 6 Kalvari-class submarines, being designed by French naval defense and DCNS under Project-75.
The officials claimed that the vessel can tackle anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare along with performing intelligence, mine lying, and surveillance missions. The previously commissioned Scorpene class submarines are INS Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj and Vela.
