The imposing of a law against the Love Jihad is taking various twists and turns day-day. Slamming the BJP led States that are planning on imposing a law on love jihad, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel asked whether inter-religion marriages of family members of BJP leaders will fall under the definition of ‘love jihad’?

He added as BJP leaders have been vociferous about bringing a law against religious conversion in the name of ‘love jihad’ a term that has been coined by right-wing outfits opposing inter-faith marriages. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh are contemplating introducing the law. He asked why we can’t have laws curtailing the right to marry?

Several family members of BJP leaders have also performed inter-religion marriages. I ask BJP leaders if these marriages come under the definition of ‘love jihad’? Recently Ashok Ghelot the Chief Minister of Rajasthan has also slammed BJP’s decision by saying that ‘love jihad’ is a term ‘manufactured’ by the BJP to disturb communal harmony, provoking a sharp reaction from Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM reacted to the law on ‘love jihad’ as it’ll be gross violation of Articles 14 & 21, scrap Special Marriage Act then. They should study Constitution. Such propagation of hatred won’t work.
