Harassment for Money : Gokak Police Inspector, Constables Didn’t Attend Inquiry

The complaints of a family to Belagavi SP and DC from which the Gokak police forcibly took cash of Rs 15 lakh to free it from a murder case is seemed getting positive results as the top brass started inquiry of the alleged police.

A poor family from Gokak taluk, including women and children been to DC and SP offices here last week and appealed them to free from the harassment and torture from police who threatened them of involving in a murder case if not given them cash. The victim family said it gatheted money from as accessible sources and gave to them. However, again they are demanding for money.

As per the order of Additional SP Mahaning Nandgavi, on Monday inquired Gokak PSI Nagaraj Killari. However, Circle Inspector Gopal Rathod, constables Patil and Kasturi remained absent.

Additional SP Nandgavi gave another date to the absentee constables to attend gor the inquiry.

The victim family said it was not at all related to the murder, police forcibly took them to the station, tortured and threatened them of fixing in the murder case if not given cash. “We gave them Rs 15 lakh, however, they are demanding more amount, we are poor farmers not in a position to give the money, please free us from the torture else we would surrounder to mass suicide,” the family told SP and DC in its memorandum.
