Claiming the transparency was not maintained during the entire election process to Belagavi City Corporation, the defeated candidates, except BJP have decided to approach the Karnataka High Court to instruct the State Election Commission to cancel the election conducted recently and told hold a fresh election.
The defeated candidates who held a meeting at Maratha Mandir at Belagavi on Tuesday suspected that the election commission was acted according to the direction of the state BJP government as VVPATS were not afixed to the RVMs. The BJP leaders, before the election had told the party would win about 45 seats which almost turned true. MES members said they had urged the Election Commission to conduct the election on Ballet Papers and not the EVMs which could be fabricated.
MES former Corporator Pandari Parab said many former corporators including him have done an appreciable work during their term and contested again the election to continue the same. However, BJP leaders with the officials managed to defeat them as the party don’t want them to continue.
Sanjay Killekar contested independent said malpractice was done in the election as 8 members of his family cast him the votes, however, only 4 were counted to his account. He said according to his survey he should have got 540 votes, however, its less by more than 50pc.
The defeated candidates will submit the district administration a memorandum on Wednesday and would file a suit next day.
