During the first lock down for COVID-19, in March 2029, K Kamalathal noted as ‘Idli Amma’ got immensely famous for selling idlis for just Re 1. After she got viral, Business tycoon Anand Mahindra got impressed by her dedication and promised to buy her a home.

Mahindra stuck to his promise and gifted a new house to Tamil Nadu’s Idli Amma on Mother’s Day celebrated worldwide on Sunday.

The business mogul shared a video on Twitter that shows Idli Amma, inaugurating her new house having a ‘special kitchen’ designed specifically for her. Lakhs of people ate the south Indian famour dish “Idli” during the lockdown when they had no money to buy food which was privided by “Idli Amma” Kamalathal. She has been respectfully, lovingly called by people as “Idli Amma” means “Idli Mother” for filling the stomach for very less amount.

Anand Mahindra wrote, “Immense gratitude to our team for completing the construction of the house in time to gift it to “Idli Amma” on#MothersDay She’s the embodiment of a Mother’s virtues: nurturing, caring and selfless. A privilege to be able to support her and her work. Happy Mother’s Day to you all!”

People on the internet lauded the Mahindra Group Chairman for sticking to his words and fulfilling his promise.

Anand Mahindra has been lauding “Idli Amma” for her work and has been helping her expand his business. Last year, he talked about investing in her business and helped her get an LPG gas to make her special idlis.

Later, in April 2021, the businessman went one better and promised that she would have her own house.
