For the progress of the Maratha community in the state of Karnataka, various demands have been made continuously for the past twenty years. Every government is giving assurances to the Maratha community. The Maratha community has made a significant contribution to the success of the present BJP government in the state. Therefore, Maratha community should be included in Other Backward Class-2A (OBC-2A) in Karnataka. Various demands should be met for the overall progress of the society. For this, a delegation of the Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Federation met the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi along with other Union Ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Delhi and submitted their demands.Last week, the Maratha Development Corporation office was inaugurated in Bangalore by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. In the inaugural program, Maratha community members from all over the state demonstrated their strength to the government. In the same event, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had given a 100 crore subsidy to the Maratha Development Corporation and also made positive comments regarding the community’s demand for reservation. Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Federation played a role in the success of this gathering. After the unprecedented success achieved, a statewide delegation of the Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Federation, including Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shobha Karanjala, Union Minister Bhagwant Khuba, Union Minister Shripad Naik, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, BJP Karnataka State President Naveen Kumar Kateel, BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, BJP National General Secretary C.T. Ravi, Khas. After meeting Mangala Angadi, Khas.PC Gaddigowdar etc. and presented a statement regarding Maratha reservation and their various demands.
Federation State President Shamsundar Gaikwad speaking on the occasion of the meeting with dignitaries said that the total population of Maratha community in the state is around 60 lakhs. There are 15 lakh Maratha brothers in Belgaum district. Maratha brothers are playing an important role in the society and politics of the state. For the past twenty years, various demands have been made for the overall progress of the Maratha community in the state. According to Shankarappa Commission’s recommendation, the Maratha community in the state must get reservation. But the Karnataka government is ignoring the reservation and other important demands of the Maratha community. The only satisfaction is that the Development Board has been established for the progress of the society.
The current BJP government has come to power only because of the cooperation of the Maratha community. All the ministers present in the Maratha Mela in liberated Bangalore along with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa have agreed that the contribution of the Maratha community has been important in their political success. Meanwhile, no person from the Maratha community has been given the post of minister or chairman of the regulatory body. Shrimant Patil was given the ministerial post for just six months. Due to this, the feeling is being expressed that Bharatiya Janata Party is using the Maratha community politically. BJP needs the votes and cooperation of the Maratha community. For that, it is the duty of the BJP to empower the Maratha community. The BJP government at the center and the state should give serious thought to this and immediately announce reservation for the Maratha community in Karnataka. At the same time, Shamsundar Gaikwad and other dignitaries present in the delegation demanded that other demands should be accepted for the progress of the society. Accepting the statement of the Maratha Federation, all the ministers and dignitaries expressed a positive opinion regarding the reservation of the Maratha community in the state of Karnataka along with the overall progress of the decision.
