The Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has filed a defamation suit against his neighbour Ketan Kakkad. Kakkad who owns a plot of land near the actor’s farmhouse in Panvel near Mumbai, defamed him in an interview with a YouTube channel. Khan owns a farmhouse in Panvel in neighbouring Raigad district.
Khan, who lives in Galaxy Apartment of Bandra has a farmhouse in Panvel. While, Kakkad, a resident of Malad in Mumbai also owns a piece of a plot on a hill in Panvel next to Khan’s farmhouse.
According to Khan, Kakkad had defamed him un an interview to a YouTuber. Two other women who also participated in the show have also been put into the suit.
Apart from these people, various social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google have been made parties. Khan wants these companies to block and remove the defamatory content on their websites.
The plea for injunction states that the court should restrain them by a temporary order and injunction “from directly or indirectly loading/uploading, posting, re-posting, tweeting, retweeting, giving interviews, etc in relation to Khan and/or his Panvel Farmhouse on social media platforms.
Friday, the suit came up for hearing before Judge Anil H Laddhad in the City Civil Court. Advocates from legal firm DSK Legal representing Khan pressed for a grant of injunction. However, advocates Abha Singh and Aditya Pratap representing Kakkad opposed by stating that they received the papers last evening and had not been able to go through the entire suit. Singh also stated that there is no urgency in the matter and if Khan can wait for a month to file a suit, then some time should be granted to the Kakkad for his reply.
Judge Laddhad decided to give time to Singh and Pratap to file a reply on behalf of Kakkad and adjourned the case for next hearing on January 21.
