Five among the six accused rapists were from Sathyamangalam in Erode district of Tamil Nadu who were the habitual offenders facing various criminal charges including robbery. The arrested are in their mid-20s, working as daily-wage earners of which one was minor by age-17.

The gang while going back home used to rob the lone travellers, young couples and women of their valuables. They used to party on the hillock near (north) locality after committing crime on their way back to Sathyamangalam via Chamarajanagar district.

The accused in the influence of alcohol, dragged the couple to a isolated placem, assaulted the man with her and raped the girl. They video recorded the raping scene showed to the man with the girl and told him of uploading it to social media if not givrn Rs 3 lakh.

Victim, her Classmate discharged

The 22-year-old survivor who was in hospital for three days was discharged from hospital late on Friday. She is said to have returned to her hometown Mumbai. Her classmate was discharged on Wednesday. Hospital sources confirmed both were medically fit for discharge.
